Beginner's Luck

On Friday morning K told me that he would take me to a casino and theme park at Genting. I told him I had never been to a casino, so it thrilled me. I recalled the new Bond movie, yes, plays by a not so good looking chap with nice bum (and I have to admit his bump makes me watch that movie twice, what a nice bum).
After a bloody long breakfast, well sorry but breakfast at Hilton was real kicking. Indeed we had breakfast and brunch ^_^ before left to Genting Highland.
Why is it called highland? Because it is damned high. It is about 6000 feet above sea level. K parked his car in a car park at cable car station. We took cable car to the casino, it took about 15 minutes. From the cable car we could see forest below us. Honestly it was a bit scary. It was written on cable cars to remain calm if there had been problems, and the staff would come to help us. K and I were toying with ideas how they could help us. It’s sort of in the middle of nowhere.
K said, “They might employ Superman, Batman or their alike there. So they would fly and safe us.”
“But it couldn’t be true.” I told K, “It would be too expensive to hire these superheroes. It was most likely like this, “Please remain calm, our staff will come to help you in about a month. Meanwhile please enjoy the beautiful view.””
We arrived at the casino. It was grand. Hell yeah, but I should have known that I couldn’t trust a geek’s instinct who often gets lost. We were lost several times, well…thanks geek.
It was bloody cold in Genting. What do you expect? It’s so high. Before we entered the casino, we went for a brief shopping. K thought he would need a tie, and I found a nice shawl. Then we entered the casino. Dang…one of the guards was reluctant with me. He asked me some questions before I came in. I told him that I was old enough to be there and he kept asking me questions in Malay, which I didn’t understand. Well apparently Bahasa Melayu and Bahasa Indonesia are not that similar. He asked what my religion was (I found it out later actually), and I answered him by, “Is there any problem with me? I am over 21. Why don’t you let me in?” Then he realized that I wasn’t a Malaysian. I told him that I was an Indonesian. He relieved and smiled, “Oh ok, you may come in.”
(Later on I found that melayu Malaysians which mean automatically Muslims—don’t ask me about this, I just have had heard about this, are not allowed to come to casino. Gambling is forbidden in Islam—actually it’s not only forbidden in Islam I believe. Thanks to my Indonesian look which similar to Malays I had problem to enter. But isn’t it a bit funny a Malaysian Muslim is not allowed to enter, but it is fine for an Indonesian Muslim?)
The casino wasn’t as fun as on Bond movie. Or it might because there wasn’t any chap with sexy bum in fancy tuxedo. Well…well…K’s absolutely not a gambler either. “Why should we spend money if we already knew that we’ll lose it?”
After a observing some games, I was eager to try once. Hello…I had never been to any casino, and simply wanted to know how it was. We went to a table which I can’t recall the name of the game. The minimum bet was 10 ringgit, it’s about $2.6 hehehehe. K changed 50 ringgits and we got 10 chips, each was valued 5 ringgits. We put 10 ringgits on the table, and we lost. Once again, then we lost again. K put for the third time, and he got it. He got another 10 ringgits. We did it again, and kept losing until the last 10 ringgits. K and I agreed to leave after our last 10 ringgits. I did the bet, K didn’t agree with my bet. It was too risky, less chance to win. “Oh well we’ll loose after all, what shall we worry about?” But ta daaa….this Eve won 18 times, it means I got another 180 ringgits (around $47). Wow…we’re 140 ringgits richer than before. We left the table and sold the chips with big grins on our faces.

K told me a Chinese proverb (ah yeah…how he could know much about Chinese culture? Because….he’s a Chinese Malaysian^_^),”We don’t worry about loosing in gambling, but addicted in gambling.” Ugh…I’m not sure that I have copied it well, but that’s the point.
